A Fallujah intra-mural volleyball player stands on his teammates' shoulders and holds the Iraqi flag while he shouted encouragement to the men and boys who attended the Fallujah Sports Day. Nearly 400 men and boys shared sportsmanship and camaraderie at a newly renovated schoolyard in downtown Fallujah, Apr. 3, 2008. The sport's day offered local residents a safe and organized event that included volleyball, basketball, gymnastics and a bodybuilding demonstration. All participants received awards and recognition at the end of the afternoon. U.S. Marines from 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment based out of Camp Pendleton, Calif., have worked with Fallujah officials to create a safe, prosperous environment for the last six months.
