A North Dakota National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter
Summary
A North Dakota National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter lifts 1-ton sandbag from a field near the Expo Center in Fort Pierre, June 5. South Dakota National Guard Quick Reaction Forces trained on how to tether and release these sandbags to a hovering UH-60 Black Hawk. QRFs will be utilizing this skill to place sandbags at trouble areas along the levees where high water prohibits other vehicles from doing so, in the event a levee is compromised. There are nearly 1,300 S.D. National Guard soldiers and Airmen working with local, state and federal agencies around the clock during this historic flooding event to protect homes, property and people of South Dakota.
