A test of mind and body: Soldiers become expert infantryman in northern Kuwait

Sgt. 1st Class John Gallman (right) briefs candidates during the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) course held in and around Camp Buehring, Kuwait, from Sept. 17 to 21. Eleven candidates passed the course, which involved completing infantry tasks on lanes based on tactical scenarios, land-navigation tests, an Army Physical Fitness Test and a 12-mile march. Gallman, of Spartanburg, S.C., was the non-commissioned officer-in-charge of the Traffic-Control Point lane and belongs to the 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, South Carolina Army National Guard.
