A UH-1Y Venom and AH-1W Super Cobra begin simulated
Summary
A UH-1Y Venom and AH-1W Super Cobra begin simulated attack runs on a “smokey” surface-to-air missile launcher April 12 during training on Ie Shima. “When a SAM is launched, a pilot needs to know how to detect the threat, what reactions to take and the countermeasures available,” said Capt. Brett N. Bishop. “The “smokey” SAM mimics the heat signatures given off by real SAMs without the danger of an actual threat.” Bishop is the squadron naval aviation training operations, procedures and standardization officer for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The aircraft are also with HMM-262.
