A U.S. Marine with 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, fires blanks from his M4 Carbine Rifle while acting as an opposing force to the Japan Ground Self Defense Force soldiers during Military Operations in Urban Terrain training as apart of Exercise Iron Fist, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 26, 2017. MOUT is a combat course that allows the Japanese soldiers and U.S. Marines to train in an urban environment where they clear, secure, and maneuver through buildings while taking simulated enemy fire. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
