A US Navy F-14 Tomcat, Fighter Squadron One Five Four (VF-154) makes an arrested landing, on board the conventional aircraft carrier USS INDEPENDENCE (CV 62), after returning from a patrol mission over southern Iraq. INDEPENDENCE and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) have taken up station in the Persian Gulf to relieve the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). The INDEPENDENCE will enforce UN sanctions against Iraq during Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, 7 February 1998
