A young student takes a break in the shade and claps along to children’s songs with her classmates at the New Horizons for Ain Issa School, in Ain Issa, Syria, May 16, 2018. Prior to the defeat of ISIS, schools in the area were largely evacuated and shut down for nearly five years. New Horizons for Ain Issa opened with the support of the U.S. State Department last year and now offers education for an array of needs, including special education, psychosocial support, sign language and literacy.
