An Afghan National Army instructor speaks to a group of officer candidates as they prepare to conduct physical training exercises inside a gym at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy Oct. 23, 2013. The ANAOA has advisers from the British military and includes mentors from Norway, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand. This inaugural group of cadets will emerge fully qualified as officers next September with two more groups joining next year. The first female selection process will also take place in 2014.
