An Army Reserve Soldier from the 203rd Transportation
Summary
An Army Reserve Soldier from the 203rd Transportation Detachment, 359th Transportation Battalion, aboard the Army Logistics Support Vessel 8, the Maj. Gen. Robert Smalls, tosses a line to awaiting Coast Guard members to anchor the ship to the dock at Port Ponce, Puerto Rico, Aug. 22. The ship, one of only a handful in the Army’s arsenal was delivering ammunition and supplies to the Puerto Rican Army National Guard. The historic one-day mission was the first time Army transportation assets had been used to deliver the crucial ammunition to the island and it’s use saved more than $1 million and provided valuable training in transportation and coordination between all three components of the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security and a host of civilian law enforcement agencies and civilian contractors. The mission was a part of exercise Nationwide Move 15. NWM is an annual Army Reserve approved functional training exercise designed to provide Reserve Component transportation units with valuable, realistic training, by conducting real-world operations in support of Continental United States (CONUS) activities.
