Summary
Army Lt. Col. Les Davis, Camp Mabry Garrison commander, right, and Jeff Hunt, Texas Military Forces museum director, left, listen to the guest speaker during the induction ceremony of the Texas Merci Boxcar exhibit at the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas, Feb. 23, 2014. Davis and Hunt both took part in the ceremony, recounting the history of the Texas Military Forces and its involvement with the boxcar. The boxcar was one of 49 given to the U.S. in 1949 - one for each state and the then Hawaiian territory. The "Gratitude Train" or Merci boxcars were given by the people of France as a gift to the American people as a gesture of thanks for relief supplies sent following World War II and the sacrifices made by American service members on French soil during World Wars I and II.
