ARTA BEACH, Djibouti (July 8, 2017) Marines with 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment fire light and heavy machine guns, during mounted machine gun training, as part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit sustainment training on Arta Beach, Djibouti July 8, 2017. Marines with the 24th MEU conduct sustainment training while deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group to demonstrate their capabilities to train for extended periods of time in the field. Bataan and its ARG are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
