North Atlantic Ocean (July 14)--The Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin (WHEC 721) conducts drills with foreign naval vessels during (BALTOPS '96) Baltic Operations 1996 in the North Atlantic. The USCGC GALLATIN deployed to the U.S. European Command from 24 May to 11 September 1996. GALLATIN participated in BALTOPS 96 with our NATO allies in the Baltic Sea and visited the Mediterranean and Black Sea in support of the CINCs Engagement and Enlargement Strategy with the Emerging Democracies of Eastern Europe. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
