Bombardier Nerony Nanai and other New Zealand soldiers
Summary
Bombardier Nerony Nanai and other New Zealand soldiers perform a haka during a barbecue aboard Camp Linton, New Zealand on Sept. 5, 2018. Nanai is a gun sergeant with 161 Battery, 16th Field Regiment from Auckland, North Island. A haka is a violent foot-stamping, rhythmic body slaps, and tongue protrusions accompanied with loud chants proclaiming the strength, pride, and unity of the home tribe. It has been used to not only intimidate enemies on the battlefield but also to bring groups together in peace. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
