Summary
Capt. Wallace Lovely, Pacific Partnership 2013 mission commander, prepares to lay a wreath for three fallen Marines during a ceremony at the Guadalcanal American Memorial commemorating the 71st anniversary of the landing of Marines on Guadalcanal during World War II. The remains of the three Marines, who died during World War II, were discovered just days before the ceremony. Working at the invitation of each host nation, U.S. Navy forces are joined by non-governmental organizations and regional partners that include Australia, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and New Zealand to improve maritime security, conduct humanitarian assistance and strengthen disaster-response preparedness.
