Clockwise from left, U.S. Navy Capt. Bob Carey, the Navy emergency liaison officer to New York City, Capt. Matthew St. Claire, the commanding officer of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, visit the New York City Office of Emergency Management Nov. 3, 2012, to select locations for humanitarian operations. The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Antonio (LPD 17), the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) and the amphibious dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) were positioned in New York Harbor to support relief operations after Hurricane Sandy struck the region five days earlier. Sandy formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
