Cmdr. Jason Anderson, prospective commanding officer, USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) (Gold), from Riverdale, Ga., renders a salute as he walks through side boys during a change of command ceremony for Rhode Island held at the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga. chapel. The boat recently completed a 33-month Engineered Refueling Overhaul, which will extend the life of the submarine for another 20 years. Rhode Island is one of five ballistic-missile submarines stationed at the base and is capable of carrying up to 20 submarine-launched ballistic missiles with multiple warheads.
