Col. Luis Pomales (right), director, Army Reserve Engagement Team-Japan, presents an ARET-J coin to a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Reserve Component service member during a formal dinner hosted at the Sky View Restaurant in Camp Ichigaya, Japan, Aug. 29, 2016. The JGSDF senior leadership selected approximately 60 Reserve Component service members to Camp Ichigaya to participate in a week-long symposium that promoted esprit de corps between the reserve and its active duty component through classroom assignments, field exercises and social events. The JGSDF invited Pomales to speak about the mission and capabilities of the U.S. Army Reserve and how they enhance the bilateral partnership between Japan and the United States.
