KODIAK, Alaska - Master Chief Petty Officer Troy E. Lowdermilk, the command master chief for Communications Station Kodiak, extends a gift to Cmdr. Peter Van Ness, COMMSTA Kodiak's prior commanding officer, on behalf of the officers and crew of the unit June 29, 2012. Van Ness commanded the unit for three years, during which they established a new communications site on Shemya Island, prosecuted numerous search and rescue cases including the sinking of the fishing vessel Northern Belle and provided radio communications for Coast Guard ships and aircraft throughout Alaska and the North Pacific.
