Cpl. Gregory Taylor, a motor transport mechanic with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa, lays under a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) to show the Gendarmerie Nationale Senegalaise how to maintain the vehicle on Aug. 22, 2016, near Dakar, Senegal. On 2 August, 2016, the United States donated 23 HMMWVs to Senegal via the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program. The HMMWVs will be used to support both Peace Keeping efforts abroad and to counter internal security issues, such as the transport of illicit materials across national borders. Recognizing that developing the skills needed to maintain older HMMWVs is just as important as having the equipment itself, planners from the United States and Senegal jointly developed a training program to pass these skills to Senegalese mechanics.
