Cpl. MaryBeth Monson poses beside a poster with short description of how she was selected for the Military Leadership Award, May 2, at The Pierre Hotel during the 2013 USO Woman of the Year Luncheon. While deployed to Afghanistan, Monson volunteered to be part of the security team responsible for fortifying and securing the perimeter in order to repel enemy attacks following an attack that occurred on Sept. 14, 2012. Monson is an aircraft intermediate level structures mechanic with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force.
