Dr. Ken Holland (center), Ball State University’s Dean of the Rinker Center for International Programs, speaks to Afghan media during a tour of Sheikh Zayed University in Khowst City, Nov. 14. The U.S. and Afghan university officials met for the inauguration of a journalism partnership program funded by the U.S. Department of State. The program features a planned three-story media building for the campus, along with a print media facility and schools for radio and television broadcasting training. Ball State University will help improve their Afghan counterparts’ academic standards for journalism through upgrades to curriculum, teaching methods and use of technology, and provide English language instruction to journalism professors.
