Federal Emergency Management Agency members and state
Summary
Federal Emergency Management Agency members and state of Alaska employees tour Port of Anchorage as a site for Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore's participation in Alaska Shield 14 here on April 3, 2014. Alaska Shield 14 is an exercise that involves federal, state, local and military agencies designed to test the response and coordination modeled after the 1964 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that devastated much of South Central Alaska. JLOTS consists of U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard to rapidly deploy support in order to sustain the region where normal facilities and services have been destroyed due to a simulated disaster much like the tsunami that occurred 50 years ago. FEMA is a Homeland Security organization that works nationally to provide resources for recovery in times of crisis. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Benjamin John)
