Summary

First Sgt. Nicholas Imperial, company first sergeant, Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, and a native of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, completes the final running portion of the “Memorial Day Murph” workout aboard Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, May 26, 2014. Marines with the battalion conducted the workout to honor service members who gave their lives in the defense of the United States. “The Murph” consists of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats and another mile run to finish the workout. The workout was dedicated to Navy Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient who was killed while conducting combat operations during 2005. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad.
