Former U.S. Rep. Sid Morrison reflects on Purple Heart
Summary
Former U.S. Rep. Sid Morrison reflects on Purple Heart recipient Spc. Evan Mettie’s legacy at a ceremony renaming the Selah Airstrip to the Mettie Airstrip at the Yakima Training Center, Washington, Tuesday. Mettie received the Purple Heart after a roadside improvised explosive device left him paralyzed with severe traumatic brain injury during his second deployment to Iraq in 2006. "This naming perpetuates a dedication to service that should inspire all of us, and all of those people yet to come," Morrison said. “This is America at its best.” (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
