Gerald “Jerry” D. Simon, a WWII veteran and one of the last surviving bomb disposal technicians trained at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md., shares stories of how his service began, the type of training and equipment he received, and some of the missions he undertook in the 1940’s, during the closing ceremony for the 2018 Ordnance Crucible – EOD Team of the Year assessment at Fort Lee, Va., June 8, 2018. EOD teams are assessed on operations and associated tasks required to provide EOD support to unified land operations to eliminate and/or reduce explosive threats. The Ordnance Crucible is designed to test Soldiers' teamwork and critical thinking skills as they apply technical solutions to real world problems improving readiness of the force.
