PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (April 12, 2004)--Petty Officer 2nd Class Joseph M. Moore (center) and Petty Officer Richard B. Johnson (right), both boatswain's mates aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Cypress, install a range light for the shipping channel into Port-au-Prince harbor in Haiti, as Lt. Luis Parrales (left), working for the Maritime Component Commander in Port-au-Prince, provides security for them.
Cypress, a 225-foot buoy tender home ported in Mobile, Alabama, has performed many different missions like putting navigational aids in the Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitian ship channels, helping the Haitian Coast Guard by fixing boats and serving as a �Mother Ship� staging platform for U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team 91104.
The U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Component Commander is responsible for maritime safety and security operations throughout the territorial seas of Haiti.
