Iron Soldiers conduct a four-mile ruck march under extreme temperatures during the best squad competition August 20 across Fort Bliss, Texas in the spirit of friendly competition while simultaneously enhancing operational readiness. The ruck march was just one of several tasks all squads participating in the competition had to perform as part of the two-day event during Torch Week. Additional events included swimming, day and night land navigation, a stress shoot and an obstacle course. Torch Week is held each year to celebrate the great legacy of the 1st Armored Division, and it serves as a way to honor all the Iron Soldiers of the historic “Old IronSides” division.
