La Moin Bennington, 92, U.S. Navy 1944 – 46.
Bennington was born during the Depression years in Ogden, Utah. He was 17 when he joined the Navy. He finished basic training and was on his way to the war in the Pacific when the Japanese surrendered, and the war came to an end. He continued serving aboard an LST ship transporting Japanese prisoners held in China back to Japan, and Chinese prisoners held in Japan, back to China.
He returned to Utah after being discharged from the Navy and drove a truck for a living. He worked at Hill AFB a few years and assisted in building missiles. He moved to Boise in 1972. From 1978 until 1992 Bennington owned a chain of gas stations.
