Lance Cpl. Donald Hesse carries his dog Dasty at the end of a conditioning hike through the woods on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 24, 2015. Carrying the dogs strengthens the handler’s ability to take care of their dog in the case that it overheats or gets injured. Hesse is from Salem, Massachusetts, and a military working dog handler with 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF.
