Lance Cpl. Thien Le reassembles a machine gun on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock New Orleans here Nov. 25 during weapon drills with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Thien is a 19-year-old Houston native and a machine gunner with Company L. The Pendleton-based company is one of three rifle companies with Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground combat element for the unit, which embarked USS Makin Island, USS New Orleans and USS Pearl Harbor in San Diego, Nov. 14, beginning a seven-month deployment through the Western Pacific and Middle East regions.
