Lt. Cmdr. Lanny F. Littlejohn, 39, from Spartanburg, S.C., a physician with Charlie Surgical Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), stitches up an injured Marine inside a Mobile Trauma Bay at Combat Outpost Rankel in support of operations at Safar Bazaar in Helmand province, Afghanistan, Aug. 14. A Mobile Trauma Bay is an armored container on top of a tactical vehicle consisting of state-of-the-art medical equipment and one doctor, a nurse and three corpsmen. It can travel closer to the battlefield in order to provide immediate medical treatment to injured troops on-site.

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
