Maj. Gen. Mark McQueen, deputy chief of staff, mobilization and reserve affairs for U.S. Army Europe, thanks members of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, for their service and participation in the Latvia Day parade during a rehearsal for the parade Nov. 17, 2014 in Riga, Latvia. In 1918, national representatives convened in what is now the National Theatre and proclaimed the independence of the Latvian state. Nov. 18 is the Day of Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia and is celebrated by a national holiday. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
