Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 31st
Summary
Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, load a Joint Precision Airdrop System onto an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft during an aerial delivery exercise at IE Shima Training Facility, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 2, 2019. The JPAD uses GPS, steerable parachutes, and an onboard computer to steer loads to a designated point of impact on a drop zone, allowing the MEU to effectively resupply units on the ground. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
