Summary
Members of the Mongolian General Police control an "aggressor" while running through the Oleoresin Capsicum (OC, or pepper spray) qualification course at Five Hills Training Area, Mongolia, Aug. 21. Police-grade OC spray measures at about 5.3 million Scoville heat units, more than 2,100 times that of a jalapeno pepper. Approximately 150 troops with the Mongolian Armed Forces and Mongolian police were contaminated before running through a series of stations to earn their certification. The FTX participants received classroom instruction and executed dry runs of the OC course prior to their qualification run, which also served as a cumulative test on all non-lethal tactics covered thus far during the exercise. The training took place as part of the Non-Lethal Weapons Executive Seminar field training exercise, hosted annually in the Pacific region and led this year by U.S. Marines with 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Mongolia, a regular participant, is hosting NOLES for the third time in 12 years.
