US COAST GUARD Miss Charlotte - ATLANTIC
Summary
RIGOLETS, La. - The loud hum of motors and tanks overtake the buzz and bustle of workers and guests on board to take a first-hand look at what Miss Charlotte can do July 12, 2010. Miss Charlotte is a prototype oil separation barge built by K&K Construction and Disaster Service, a locally-based company. The barge has three hoses connected to hydraulic pumps that vacuum the product up to two large tanks on top of the deck where the oil and water gets separated. The water that has been separated travels down two hoses that run out along the inside and pours out onto a second precautionary line of metal filters and starts the process over.
