Pāhoa, Hawaii, May 24, 2018 – Everett Kaneshige, Statewide Interoperability Coordinator (SWIC), Department of Defense for the State of Hawaii (left) and Tom Lawless, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Region IX Coordinator (right) test satellite connectivity in remote areas affected by the Kīlauea volcanic eruption. Internet connectivity is needed to install air monitoring stations to analyze harmful gasses released by the volcano. FEMA continues to work with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) to install air monitoring systems to analyze public health threats.
