Summary
Rct. Danielle N. Pyles, Platoon 4006, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, shoots during marksmanship training Jan. 21, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Each recruit fires more than 500 rounds over five days. At the end of the week, they attempt to qualify from distances of 200, 300 and 500 yards. Pyles, 19, from Clinton, Tenn., is scheduled to graduate Feb. 27, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
