Rct. Lilly S. Espinoza, Platoon 4009, Papa Company, 4th Recruits Training Battalion, loads a magazine Feb. 4, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Over the course of five days, recruits fire more than 200 rounds each at targets from distances of 200, 300 and 500 yards. Espinoza, 24, from Grants Pass, Ore., is scheduled to graduate March 13, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
