Rear Adm. Steven H. Ratti, commander of the 5th Coast

Rear Adm. Steven H. Ratti, commander of the 5th Coast Guard District, joins the descendants of George Washington Whitehurst following a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in Virginia Beach, Va., to commemorate the 113th anniversary of the rescue of five crew members from the wreck of the schooner Jennie Hall off Virginia Beach during a gale. Whitehurst earned the Silver Lifesaving Medal with six other members of the U.S. Life-Saving Service for his bravery during the rescue.
