Description: STS-49 Mission Specialist (MS) Kathryn C. Thornton (lower right - dashed stripe) and MS Thomas ``Tom`` D. Akers (center - diagonal stripe) work on struts by the multipurpose experiment support structure (MPESS) during the Assembly of Station by Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Methods (ASEM) construction in Endeavour's, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 105's, payload bay (PLB). The two astronauts are building the ASEM structure during the mission's fourth Extravehicular Activity (EVA). The Remote Manipulator System (RMS) end effector is attached to ASEM's grapple fixture in the center of the image. The ASEM structure, locked in at four corners to payload retention latch assemblies (PRLAs), rises above the PLB. The blue and white Earth is visible below.
