description

Summary

Sgt. (E-8) Mohammad Saadiq (right), an Afghanistan National Army (ANA) trainer, supervises/teaches talks to Jalal Basir(left to right), interpreter, to explain to Senior Master Sgt Charles Jones and Tech. Sgt. Joey Jimenez that he has not separated the inventory workers into smaller groups because there is a literacy and English language limitations with the workers. So to continue the training, he allowed the workers to stay in one large group at the Central Supply Depot in Kabul, Afghanistan. The warehouse complex is more than 40,000 sq feet and stores supplies. Senior Master Sgt. Jones, a native of Youngstown, Ohio 44505, is assigned to the 374th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan. Jones says Ã?when I leave Ill take pride in that we left it better than we found it. ANA have commented to him that they enjoy having the U.S. Air Force personnel take pride in doing things right and how they mentor/push the logistics training mission, rather than just doing the job themselves. Tech Sgt. Joey Jimenez, a native of Cotulla, TX 78014, is assigned to the 341st Services Squadron, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. Both are deployed to the 755th Expeditionary Mission Support Group, Detachment 2, Kabul, Afghanistan. In only four months, a six-person U.S. Air Force embedded training team along with Army, Navy and civilian contractors at this depot have trained more than forty soldiers in shipping, receiving, storage, inventory, and management and provided continued mentorship in these skills. From this group a cadre of ANA soldiers will become trainers and specialists at the depots in the Kabul, Afghanistan area. One of the biggest challenges said Lt. Col. Deron Wendt, the embedded trainers are deeply vested in the process, but do not own ant of the controlling mechanisms meaning that there are multiple bureaucracies and that they are there to train the ANA to solve the problems themselves. Working outside the wire is a far departure from their home station duties.

The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year. There are approximately 10 billion pages of textual records; 12 million maps, charts, and architectural and engineering drawings; 25 million still photographs and graphics; 24 million aerial photographs; 300,000 reels of motion picture film; 400,000 video and sound recordings; and 133 terabytes of electronic data. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
