Sgt. Stephen Novak (left), an Abilene, Texas, native, and Sgt. Darnell Haynes, a Chicago native, both vocalists with the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Band, perform “There is Nothing Like a Dame” from the musical “South Pacific” during a concert in the MARFORPAC Band’s Summer Concert Series at Mololani Community Park, Aug. 21, 2015. The band hosted three concerts on base at Kaneohe Bay and one at Manana Housing. The band played songs reminiscent of World War II, such as “Songs of Sailor and Sea Suite” by Robert W. Smith. Next week marks the anniversary of Japan’s officially signing the instrument of surrender Sept. 2, 1945, aboard the USS Missouri. Recreational events such as MARFORPAC Band concerts help boost morale aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, furthering the mission, which is to provide better service for the units, individuals and families in order to enhance and sustain combat readiness for all operating forces and tenant organizations aboard the installation.
