Sgt. William Hambly sports the official flag of Pineland on his backpack as he prepares to board his deployment flight with Alpha Battery, 1-113th FA BN "Axehandles." Pineland is part of North Carolina legend; it's the fictional country spread across 15 of our counties back home, used for Special Forces training scenarios (called "Robin Sage") by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. Hambly, a self-proclaimed Pineland resident, volunteers in support of the exercises. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Capt. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
