Description: Mission Commander Ron Grabe in the middeck inspecting the life sciences Physiological Systems Experiment (PSE) to study the prolonged period of wound healing experienced in the micro gravity of space. The experiment consists of an entirely self contained animal (laboratory rats) cage in which the rats have been implanted with growth factors. Post flight examination may reveal and identify what factors, or the lack thereof, affect healing. Results of these studies may lead to new treatments or cures for Earth bound burn victims, bed sore patients, diabetics, and other patients with slow-healing or soft tissue injuries.
