STS082-701-068 - STS-082 - EVA 1 activity on Flight Day 4 to service the Hubble Space Telescope
Summary
The original finding aid described this as:
Description: Extravehicular Activity (EVA) 1 on Flight Day 4 to service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) on this second servicing mission (HST SM-02). Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) suited astronauts Mark Lee and Steve Smith install the new NICMOS Orbital Replacement Unit (ORU) in the telescope +V2 aft shroud bay. Smith (identified by no red stripes) stands on the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) Manipulator Foot Restraint (MFR) and moves the new Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) into the aft shroud bay while Lee (identified by red stripe) ensures clearance for the NICMOS; the old Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) which the NICMOS replaces, is mounted temporarily on the ORU Carrier (ORUC) aft fixture (001-32). Smith closes the +V2 aft shroud doors; while Lee translates along the starboard sill longeron (033-47). Lee is out of frame while Smith continues to fasten the +V2 aft shroud doors (048-51). Dark views of the EVA activity illuminated by the green lights of the payload bay; very difficult to see due to smears of light; Lee has returned to the side of Smith at the aft shroud doors (052-59). Clean-up activity near end of EVA; Lee translates forward along starboard sill and Smith climbs out of the MFR (060-75).
