Tech. Sgt. Bill Smith, a 151st Maintenance Squadron sheet metals technician and prior crew chief, prepares a KC-135 Stratotanker for flight Aug. 29, 2019, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Air National Guard Stratotankers from Utah and Nevada relocated to Hawaii to participate in exercise Sentry Aloha 19-2 and provide air-refueling support to fighter aircraft. This iteration of Sentry Aloha includes Air National Guard members from 15 states and a unit from the Royal Australian Air Force. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
