U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Wesley Shealey, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and the mayor of Combat Outpost Deh Yak, gathers a heavy tire and ship's rope he had acquired for physical fitness purposes, Deh Yak District, Ghazni province, Afghanistan, March 25. Soldiers can take turns flipping the items so they can increase their strength and endurance. Shealey is an infantryman assigned to the Fort Knox, Ky.-based Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Duke. In his duties as COP mayor, Shealey is entrusted with matters that include waste water management, fire prevention, traffic control, and morale, welfare and recreation.

The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
