Summary
The Army Engineer Spouses Club welcomed a group of more than 30 Michigan-based "Rosie the Riveters" at Ronald Reagan International Airport in Arlington, Virginia, March 22, 2016. Now in their 80s and 90s, these women entered the American workforce in the early 1940's during World War II as male enlistment in the war left gaping holes in the industrial labor force. The character “Rosie the Riveter” was popularized as part of the government campaign aimed at recruiting female workers for the munitions industry, and her "We Can Do It" slogan became one of the most iconic images of working women during the war. Decades later, it is still a powerful symbol for women's empowerment.
Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials.
