Summary
The steel wire of a field arrestment system “traps” an F/A-18C Hornet tail hook at Clark Air Field, Pampanga, Republic of the Philippines, Oct. 2 during a field arrestment exercise as part of Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. The field arrestment system is used for landing aircraft on short runways, or for emergencies when using the full length of the runway is not possible or safe. Bilateral training during PHIBLEX 14 is focused on enhancing interoperability and the readiness of forces. The aircraft is with Marine Fighter Squadron 232, currently assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, as part of the Marine Corps’ unit deployment program.
