Summary
Toa Kyle, a Save Our Waterways Now team leader, explains the importance of the Macaranga plant in Australia to sailors from the U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge during a community service project at Purtell Park, in support of the exercise Talisman Sabre 2011. The COMSEV project site was in the Council ward of Toowong in Brisbane, to continue fostering good relations with the host nation of Australia. Sailors, members of SOWN and international volunteers from Conservation Volunteers Australia cleared Ithaca Creek of brush and weeds to help restore the creek. The exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 reflects on the closeness, alliance and strength of the ongoing military-military relationship between the U.S. and Australia.
